Florida state Sen. Darren Soto (D-Orlando) had harsh words for the Governor’s office and the water management district after Tuesday’s 8-0 ruling by the Governing Board to approve modifications to the water permit sought by Sleepy Creek Lands in Marion County. In a post on his Facebook page, he accused the Governor’s office of influencing recent top level firings/resignations at the St. Johns River Water Management District in order to quell opposition to the permit. He posted that the district “approves a 1.5M gallon a day permit to Sleepy Creek Ranch which sits right in the Silver Spring water shed. This approval comes after Gov Scott’s fired [sic] long time staff at the District and is poised to destroy this iconic spring. Time to investigate!”
